Artificial Intelligence Use in the Procurement Process: What is AI's Impact on the Future of Government and Industry in Government Contracting
Katherine E. Crompton is a federal leader with over 25 years of experience in procurement innovation and acquisition strategy within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). She currently serves as DHS’s Acquisition Innovation Advocate and Director of the Procurement Innovation Lab (PIL), where she spearheads initiatives to streamline acquisition processes, enhance competition, and improve mission outcomes. Under her leadership, the PIL has trained over 36,000 professionals and driven innovative procurement strategies across federal agencies.
Prior to DHS, Ms. Crompton held key roles in the DoD, including Director of Contracting for the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) and Branch Chief at Army Contracting Command. Her leadership resulted in groundbreaking initiatives in AI, cyber, IT, and digital solutions, as well as agile contracting frameworks that accelerated acquisition timelines and strengthened federal mission readiness.
Ms. Crompton holds a bachelor’s degree in elective studies with a minor in accounting from St. Ambrose University and an associate degree in accounting from Black Hawk College. She has been recognized with prestigious honors, including the David Packard Award for Excellence in Acquisition, for her significant contributions to federal procurement.
