Sonia Ashfaq

Sonia started her journey with contracts as a Student Intern for Contracts and Procurement at the Executive Office of the President. Sonia joined GSA, PBS’ National Capital Region in the summer of 2019 as a contract specialist working in the Repair and Alterations Branch, within the Office of Acquisition. Within two years, she became a warranted Contracting Officer. In 2021 she volunteered for an opportunity to detail on Operation Artemis at the Southern Border with the office of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Prior to joining GSA, Sonia served as a Buyer/Subcontract Admin, and Procurement Analyst in the private sector. She issued purchase orders for all general procurement supplies and services, reviewed all purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy; obtained competitive quotes and document information in the procurement files; and documented source and price justifications for all procurement actions. Sonia assisted other department personnel with contract and subcontract administration and promoted the small business, small, disadvantaged business, and woman-owned small business participation by targeting business opportunities with such companies. She also negotiated Master Service Agreements, closed out completed procurement files and processed them in accordance with records retention procedures.

Sonia is FAC-C Level II certified and has a SAT Contracting Officer’s Warrant. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Government & International Politics, from George Mason University, and a Graduate Certificate in Procurement and Contracts Management from the University of Virginia.
