Mr. David E. Wirtz Jr, is the Deputy Project Manager, Soldier Medical Devices, at the Program Executive Office Soldier, and is responsible for the delivery and sustainment of deployable medical capabilities for the Warfighter. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Homeland Security from Trident University. He is a member of the Army Acquisition Corps and holds Defense Acquisition University Program Management Level III and Lifecycle Logistics Level II certifications.
Prior to his current job, Mr. Wirtz was an active-duty US Army Sergeant First Class. During his 23 years in the Army, he was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany where he deployed as part of Implementation Force (IFOR). He then conducted a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) to Fort Campbell where he served as a Supply Sergeant for Alpha Company 2-44 Air Defense Artillery Battalion. After his time at FT Campbell, Dave PCS’d again to Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico where he served as the Senior Logistics Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of the Permanent High Explosive Test Site (PHETS). After 3 years in New Mexico, SSG Wirtz was reassigned to the, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division stationed at FT Drum, NY. SSG Wirtz deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and deployed twice to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After spending 7 years in upstate New York, SFC Wirtz completed his last PCS in 2011 and was stationed at Rock Island Arsenal, ILL where he served as a Lead Materiel Integrator with the Army Sustainment Command, where he deployed to Afghanistan with the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).
Upon retirement from the United States Army, Mr. Wirtz assumed a position within Army Sustainment Command as a Logistics Management Specialist working the bulk fuel for the Army.
Mr. Wirtz Army awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (3OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Army Commendation Medal (6OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Service Star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (3 Campaign Stars), the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon( Numeral 3) Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 6), NATO Medal (ISAF), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation (2OLC), Army Superior Unit Award, the Army Air Assault Badge and the Army Combat Action Badge.
